Jen McVeity
Jen McVeity has over 22 books in print and is known for her fast moving plots, dynamic dialogue and wry humour. She talks a lot like that too!
The head of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) in Australia, Jen distributes marketing, contract and writing
information to professional creators around the country. The SCBWI has over 16,000 members and branches in over 14 countries – and Jen is the first Australian ever to be elected to their international
Board of Directors.
Jen's latest book Dreamcatcher is on the New York Library's Best
Books list and in Australia it was short-listed for the Environment Award and won the Family Award. Shadow Seeker, the sequel, was bid for by four top Australian publishing houses.
Released by HarperCollins in February 2002, the first print run sold out in a week.
Jen is a mad sportswoman, swimming in
State competitions as a child, skiing for five seasons in Europe and now playing State level beach volleyball three times a week. (She's currently her local Men's A-grade
champion.) She met her husband on a trampoline. For relaxation the whole family water skis, snow skis and trains on a circus trapeze for a week every year.
A warm, passionate and lively speaker, Jen presented keynotes last year for the Queensland Gifted conference, the
Warrnambool Writers Festival and the SCBWI Writer's conference in Hawaii. (It's a tough life…) She has also presented main sessions at the SCBWI Los Angeles writer's conference and
wrap-up panels at the Australian Primary Principal's conference.
Jen travels a lot, writing whole chapters of
novels in airports, presenting at conferences throughout Australia and the USA - and playing beach volleyball whenever and wherever she can.
