Volleyball

My claim to fame is that I am currently the men's A-grade champion in my local centre. Also, that I am the only person to get a yellow card for swearing in the Victorian Open.... Oooops.

 Instructions for beach volleyball.

1) Wait for the hottest day of the week.

2) Coat yourself with the thickest, gluggiest sun-cream. You will be out in the sun for 10 hours so this part is really necessary.

3) Take the court with your partner. Slap hands for luck. You'll need it. You are now attempting the impossible - trying to cover a sand court 8m x 8m square with just the two of you.

4) Run around frantically. This tests not only your fitness (and sanity) but also ensures you get really sweaty.

5) At every drop shot, dive full length in the sand.

6.)  Suncream+sweat+sand = a really sticky mixture.

Repeat steps 1-5 for a full game. Then play five more.

Go home, have a shower and whimper a lot. Clean never felt so good....

World Masters Games 2002

'Yours Jen' (Jen and Jen above) teamed up for the Pairs Beach Volleyball, missing the bronze medal by 2 points after playing 5 games in hot and windy conditions.

Not content with playing in the Beach Volleyball, Jen competed in a team of 6 (no subs!!) for the hardcourt volleyball, with one Tasmanian, 3 South Australians and one from NSW.

Jen had never played hardcourt volleyball, and with the team having never played together, they started badly, but after the first few games, got it together. The team was undefeated in their last 3 games, and ended up taking 5th place.
